Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.
The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals.

Evidence 1: EDT 674 Lesson Plan on Planets

Rationale 1: I developed and used this unit plan in my 4th grade science class as a way to introduce different learning technologies to my students along with presenting information to my students about the planets. I incorporated BrainPop, TeacherTube, as well as two educational websites to present facts about the planets. I chose these learning experiences because they were closely aligned with the 4th grade science standards and relevant to my 4th grade students. The lesson was taught to introduce students to the planets and present facts about each of the planets. The students then collaborated and collected data to present to their classmates the information they had acquired.

This was one of the very first lessons that I used in my classroom incorporating the internet. The students were actively engaged in the learning process and retained more of the information that was presented to them. I noticed an increase in student involvement and discussion. This lesson taught me that students really are motivated to learn from interactive media. They appreciate the variety of ways that information is presented to them.

KSD

7.K.2 The teacher knows how to take contextual considerations (instructional materials; individual student interests, needs, and aptitudes; and community resources) into account when planning instruction that creates an effective bridge between curriculum goals and students’ experiences.

By incorporating this unit into my science unit, I was able to present information to students in a variety of ways, all of which incorporated technology. Students were motivated and actively involved in their learning, and the results were very positive. Student feedback also suggested that the variation helped them to learn in a way that was beneficial to them.

7.S.2 The teacher plans for learning opportunities that recognize and address variation in learning styles, learning differences, and performance modes.

By using different types of multi-media, I was able to reach students of varying learning styles. Students who normally have a difficult time focusing were engaged in this unit because of the interactive approach. Students also appreciated the use of current technology in learning.

7.D.2 The teacher believes that plans must always be open to adjustment and revision based on student needs and changing circumstances.

After developing this plan, it became very apparent which sources students preferred to learn by. Some sources were not as interactive and students tended to lose focus. Based on student feedback, I continue to find resources that best meet the student needs as well as allow them to individualize their instruction.
